Hobby Breeders in Lorton Virginia
We are hobby breeders and a service-disabled veteran-owned small business, breeding one litter per year out of our home. We breed West German Show Line German Shepherd Dogs from Championship Pedigree. Our goal is to improve the breed standard through careful selection and mating with the intent to produce superior puppies with excellent temperaments, beautiful characteristics, and healthy structures.
Methodology
We carefully plan our litters using a “Selective Breeding” process that involves selection of the best possible match between the Dam and Sire to bring out the most desirable characteristics in our German Shepherd Dogs. We invest in the use of a highly recommended and proven stud from world championship bloodlines. This is our practice of choice because we want to increase the genetic diversity of the puppies and merge the best qualities from both bloodlines.
Customer Expectations & Breeder Delivery
Our puppies are ready to join their forever homes at 12 weeks of age. Keeping the puppies under our attentive care for a few additional weeks enables us to ensure that they undergo three veterinarian examinations and receive at least three sets of vaccines. They are also microchipped, dewormed, and have the opportunity to socialize with both people and other dogs within our kennel.
The German Shepherd Dog (GSD) is renowned for its unwavering loyalty to the family, displaying a fierce dedication to protecting their loved ones. They exude confidence and courage, yet their gentleness shines through when interacting with family members. Possessing remarkable intelligence, they have a natural aptitude for swiftly grasping commands. The GSD truly excels as a guardian, maintaining an aloof demeanor towards strangers.

Primary Healthcare of Our Dogs
A Healthy Puppy Begins with a Healthy Dam
Our girls receives top notch healthcare from our friends at Gunston Animal Hospital located in Lorton, VA. Our first dog and longtime friend, Redd VIII receives the same level of healthcare, which ensures that no common canine diseases are inadvertently transmitted to the puppies.
All our adult German Shepherd Dogs are healthy and receive annual examinations, are tested for heartworms, and internal parasites annually. They remain up to date on all vaccines that protect against common diseases such as, Distemper/Parvo, Bordetella, Rabies, and Canine Influenza. On a monthly basis we use an oral preventative treatment against heartworm disease and use a topical treatment against fleas and ticks.
Canine Reproductive Healthcare
Breeding Healthcare of our Dams
At Autumn’s House, our beloved female dogs are the cornerstone of our breeding program, and their well-being is our top priority. We rely on the dedicated experts at North Oatlands Animal Hospital and Reproduction Center, located in the delightful community of Leesburg, Virginia, to oversee their reproductive healthcare needs.
Our girls are officially registered with the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) and have undergone testing for hip and elbow health in addition to Degenerative Myelopathy (DM). To review their official OFA records, please search for "Autumn Luna vom Haus Neufus" and "Breeze von Autumn's House of German Shepherds."
Health and Nutrition for Our Puppies
Puppy Nutrition
The nutrition of our puppies begins at conception. Our dogs are fed a high-quality diet consisting of premium raw, dehydrated human grade food, homemade prepared whole food, and an award-winning whole-prey dry kibble. Foods are rotated throughout the week and supplemented with a canine prenatal vitamin.
After puppies are born and during the nursing period, the mother takes a post-natal vitamin to ensure the nutritional needs of the puppies are met. Around 3 weeks of age, puppies begin the weaning period by taking a puppy milk replacer and are introduced to soft, high-quality large breed puppy food and human grade puppy food mixture, both containing DHA and EPA and the recommended calcium and phosphorus levels for large breed puppies.
Puppies are dewormed at the age and intervals recommended by our veterinarian and receive checkups at 2 weeks, 6 weeks, and 9 weeks of age. They receive at least three sets of vaccines and are microchipped prior to going to their forever homes.

Our German Shepherds live in our home with us, becoming cherished members of our family. We've established stringent practices to prioritize the health and safety of both our dogs and puppies.
A dedicated section of our home is thoughtfully furnished and equipped for the whelping and raising of our puppies until they are ready to move to their forever homes. To ensure the utmost safety and comfort during the whelping process, we've invested in state-of-the-art equipment. This specialized area also supports the mother's care for her pups, including nursing and nurturing.
Furthermore, we've created a puppy-proofed playroom exclusively devoted to the development, socialization, and enjoyment of our puppies.
Maintaining a strict cleaning regimen, we ensure daily cleaning and disinfection of our facility using veterinarian-approved products, upholding the health and safety of all our dogs.

How we got our start
Charmayne and Don established Autumn’s House of German Shepherds, LLC in 2020, out of love for the German Shepherd Dog breed. We named our kennel after our girl Autumn as she was our inspiration to become hobby breeders of West German Show Line German Shepherd Dogs. Autumn is a beautiful black and red, long stock coat German Shepherd Dog with a very loving and playful personality. We have added Breeze (Autumn's daughter) to our breeding program. Master Redd VIII is our long-time companion and friend and is not part of the breeding program.
